Smithfield-Selma High School senior Taylor Leposa has been awarded two prestigious scholarships to attend East Carolina University.

East Carolina University awarded Leposa with both the EC Scholars and Business Scholars scholarships, which will award full tuition plus several stipends for her undergraduate studies at ECU.

The EC Scholars program is a merit scholarship program that attracts high-ability students to East Carolina University who have the promise and capability to become scholars and leaders in Eastern North Carolina and beyond.  This is the most prestigious scholarship offered at East Carolina University. EC Scholars exhibit outstanding academic performance, engagement in the community, effective leadership skills, and embrace a study abroad experience.

The amount awarded to scholarship recipients is $40,000 ($5,000 per semester for eight continuous semesters). In addition, EC Scholars are provided with a $5,000 stipend to help support their Study Abroad experience.  The EC Scholars Program provides students with rigorous coursework, research opportunities with faculty members across campus, and a required Study Abroad experience.

Business Scholars is a prestigious opportunity for Honors College awardees who wish to study and pursue careers in business. Business Scholars benefit from the College of Business Leadership and Professional Development program, a unique business curriculum designed to ensure that students develop the vital leadership skills of critical thinking, value orientation, communication, and team-building. Beyond this, Business Scholars participate in leadership and community engagement opportunities and build close relationships with the College of Business leadership team, faculty, and advisory board members.

Business Scholars benefit from a generous scholarship award of $12,000 beyond those scholarship monies awarded by the Honors College (distributed as $1500 per semester over eight semesters). Further, Business Scholars are guaranteed entry into the nationally ranked East Carolina University MBA or MSA program upon completion of their undergraduate degree.
